Joe Barnes, Producer
My name is Joe Barnes. I’m 31 years old and I grew up in Harrisonburg, Virginia before moving to Gainesville, Georgia to begin working with Adventures in Missions as a Video Producer. When I went on the World Race in 2015, the Lord led me on a journey of discovering things about my life and passions that have completely changed my life. While on the World Race, the Lord stirred a passion for creative storytelling and video production within me. I began to see the power and influence that a story can have in someone’s life. I believe even a simple, well-told story can change the way we see people around the world.
Tiara Menjivar, Director | Editor
Hello. My name is Tiara Menjivar and I’m from Los Angeles, CA. In August, 2016, I set off for 11 months on the World Race, a journey that opened up the world of storytelling and creativity for me. As I continue to learn the power of story, I believe I have a responsibility, a calling as a creative, to take this craft and make a difference for people who have no voice… and this is not the time to stay silent. In the midst of this heavy crisis, I’m eager for this opportunity to create something important, empower people, stir imagination, and instill hope.
Caleb Pauls, Director | Editor
I am Caleb Pauls. I became a film enthusiast during my time on the World Race. I have a background in politics, government and making coffee. I love the way visual storytelling gives the audience the ability to live in another persons' shoes, if only for a day. While in school I studied political theory and how the built environment and political policies can affect individuals and the collective group. I am excited to be a part of this project because it merges my two passions: historical humanitarian crisis and visual storytelling. I am excited to a part of this endeavor, to stretch my abilities for a story worth telling.
Sam Mann, Director of Photography
My name is Sam Mann from Abilene, Texas. When I was young, I knew I had a talent for film and photography, but it wasn’t until later in my life that I realized how much deeper it went than just a talent. Throughout my life, I’ve been drawn more and more to this passion and the beauty of capturing the moment that impacts another. I want to use the passions that God has placed in my heart to make a difference in this world. I want to risk for the sake of something greater. For the sake of change. This is my passion, this is my heart.
Jess Hines, Director of Photography
My name is Jess Hines, I’m 24-years-old and I’m from Tacoma, Washington. In 2016 I worked in international aid for a mission organization called The World Race. I knew early on, before the World Race, I had a passion for seeking out compelling stories and providing a visual platform for them to be heard. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been passionate about people and building relationships. I believe by taking my craft and a clear and appointed gift from the Lord, I am able to combine my two deepest passions into one. As a result, I can create something beautiful that allows people to connect to a stranger in an emotional and vulnerable way. My hope for Citizens of Refuge is it will go one step further beyond just an emotional connection, but a call to action.

I love being able to recreate an emotion for others through words, video and photos. My goal for this project is to empower all those involved to become active members of change.
